Regrettably my mother was buried at this churchyard in an area which she had no connection with and without any consultation with me regarding this location or the content of the service or music. Her actual wishes to be buried or cremated alongside her mother and other members of her family in West Norwood cemetery, were not considered at all.

Classic English rural church set at top of Elstree Hill. It has centre place in the village and an impressive wooden lychgate. The spire can be viewed from miles away and serves as a useful navigation point for walkers enjoying the Hertfordshire countryside that surrounds this area.

A small asymmetrical Gothic Revival church mostly restored on separate occasions during the course of the 19th.Century retains some 15th.Century fabric. A medley of knapped flint, carved stone dressings, quoins and unusual gabled windows. Dominates the locality and set in an evocative shady churchyard with a wooden lychgate; all conspiring to conjure a Victorian English rural archetype. The eminent Earl of Sandwichs mistress, Martha Ray, murdered in 1779 is buried here adds a frisson of mystique and a titbit of anecdotal banter.
