We cannot understand all of the 5 star reviews for Little Mistletoe. Maybe people feel sorry for the owner and don't wish to offend?! Personally, we'll rate a place highly if it's good and low if it's bad - this place only avoids 1 star because it's situated in such a magnificent location. If you enjoy camping / glamping you'll love it. If you like somewhere functional and well maintained, please do not waste your time and hard earned money. The good: Beautiful location Lovely local walks Good selection of games The bad: One of the hardest, most uncomfortable beds we've ever had to sleep on.. Which wouldn't be so bad but.... The tiny TV is in the bedroom. You have to lay on the bed to watch it. You cannot even sit up comfortably because of the wooden plank headboard. Suggestion: why not put a nice, comfy pull-out futon in the bedroom instead? The 'fridge freezer' is a tiny, worktop affair big enough for a couple of drinks and a day's worth of food. Suggestion: Get rid of one of the old, uncomfortable sitting chairs that've been placed thoughtlessly either side of entrance door, and buy a standard side fridge with a proper, small freezer compartment? There's no oven, just a tiny, low powered microwave. And no oven gloves. Suggestion: Buy a combo oven / microwave. It can sit where the hopeless worktop fridge is at the moment. No hanging space /cupboards, just a chest of drawers (in the bathroom) Suggestion: Buy a freestanding hanging cupboard and a few hangers! No first aid kit, as we found out the hard way. Surely this is illegal in the UK? No hair dryer (the owner ended up leaving one outside for us). Why not just leave it IN the chalet?! It's very poorly maintained.. 1) The bathroom is a mass of cracked ceramic floor tiles with sharp edges. You cannot walk barefoot for fear of slicing your feet. 2) The shower has 2 temperatures - hot or scalding. The cold feed appears to be missing?! 3) The curved plastic skirting around the front of the shower tray is cracked and hanging off. 4)The guttering hangs down over the main entrance into the place, so when it rains you get a cold shower when walking in. 5) The electrics are a nightmare. Extension leads plugged into double sockets. 6) Virtually every piece of cutlery / crockery /glassware needed washing before we could use it, which highlighted the lack of a draining board! 7) The bathroom tap leaks constantly. 8) There was no electric kettle (as described) only a dangerous hob top kettle. Dangerous because the spout lever (situated directly under the handle) got red hot in use. Someone (the owner?) obviously recognised this because they'd wrapped masking tape around the lever. It didn't work...you needed to hold the kettle full of boiling water....with a tea towel (not provided!) All of the above, we could have beared, but the thing that made us go home after two nights (of a four night stay) was the awful stench of death in the corner by the hob / microwave. Something had died under the floor boards or perhaps behind the wall. It brought flies in from outside as soon as you opened a window and made you gag when cooking on the hob. The owner's cleaning equipment was in the same corner, so she must have been aware. She denied this when I complained, stating that the boiler had been serviced the day we arrived (it was in presumably in the same corner) and that the boiler man hadn't complained. We've no doubt that had we complained about anything else, it would have been dismissed in the same fashion. However, in her reply to our mail, the did apologise that we didn't feel the place was up to scratch. Suggestion: The owner should do the very thing they state they do NOT do (in their handbook): Stay a few nights in their holiday let, at least once a year. No cheating! Ask themself at the end of it: What needs improving? Is it safe and legal? Would I be happy to pay for the stay and if not, why? In retrospect, this place only warrants one star.
