My wife, sister and I found Golden Gates Lodge to be one of the best self-catering cottages we have had the pleasure of staying in. Well appointed with modern facilities and an excellently-equipped kitchen, it was spotlessly clean and comfortable.
Of course, the mobile phone signal was rubbish - non existent inside the cottage - but what do you expect when you are surrounded by hundreds of acres of beautiful rural parkland and not much else? But the wifi was good and strong so we didn't suffer too much in the way of withdrawal.
Our Houdini Hound managed to find a gap in one of the garden gates and escaped, but the owners soon came and fixed that. With Range Rovers passing very close by throughout the day, that was a concern but it was quickly dealt with.
Apart from the occasional vehicle clattering over the cattle grid, Golden Gates is quiet and serene and if you're not too worried about not being close to a pub, it is ideal.
