As I entered the shop, the tinkling of a small bell echoed through the narrow aisles. The owner himself was behind the counter, his thin spectacles perched on his nose and a pencil behind his ear. He greeted me with a curt nod and a quick flick of his wrist, gesturing towards the goods on display. The store was a veritable cornucopia of necessities and indulgences. Tins of biscuits and crackers, sacks of flour and rice, bottles of oil and vinegar, all vied for attention with the latest newspapers and magazines. The place was a hive of activity, with customers darting in and out, calling out their orders and haggling over prices.
