We have always enjoyed our visits to the Newton Grange, this time was very disappointing, first impressions of the table we were allocated, kids running around screaming and crying, ordered food which was easy to do, food came, there was one dish that was inedible because it was so burned, took it back and although it was replaced, my daughter was left to watch us eating our food while she was waiting for her replacement, then she had to eat hers whilst we had all finished eating. Ordered deserts which was fine and all arrived and were lovely. We then had 2 women sorting quiz details at the table behind us, very annoying as they kept bumping into me, then the quiz started and we couldnt wait to leave. I believe that when you take bookings online you should warn people that it is quiz night. We did ask for a quiet area, and we must have got the noisiest table.

We had a table for 11 for my mum's birthday. The food was ok although I think the burgers could be greatly improved with the addition of onion and the option of having cheese, a "sprinkle" of shredded lettuce felt a little miserly too. My husband said he enjoyed the pizza but felt that there should have been cheese on the top as this would have prevented everything falling off when he picked a slice up. Overall, we had no complaints regarding the venue or the food. One thing that I found puzzling was the refusal by a member of bar staff (young male) to check the men's toilet area for me for my husband's welfare. I was concerned as he had been an unusually long time. The rest of our party were already in the cars and I returned to the pub looking for him. The member of staff said that "I don't think i can do that actually", thankfully another member of staff came over so I was able to explain to her and she sent him to check. My husband was ok, he had received an unexpected telephone call that he needed to attend to. I don't understand his response to my request but perhaps he maybe needs to understand that concerns about someone's whereabouts and safety are important. I would have been left with no choice but to go into the toilets myself to check on him. He could have been in a state of collapse as a worse case scenario.
