Nice historic landmark. Small temple resembling Greek temples. It is called house because it's been mistaken for a house which does not exist any more and where famous Polish dwarf 'Count" Josef Boruwlaski lived (buried in Durham Cathedral). The temple was built in 1810 and was used as a summer house. There are records that it was inhabited although. One family of seven lived there! You'll be surprised as much as I was when you see interior... The building at the moment is not used any more as I it was intended for but it is nice feature when you walk along river and also there are beautiful or interesting installations during Lumiere. Nothing spectacular but worth knowing about its historical links to one of the smallest people in the world. More info about this person found on Web: Boruwlaski died in Durham in 1837, aged 98, and was buried in the cathedral under a slab with initials JB. Durham Town Hall has a small display which includes some of his belongings, a portrait, and a sculpture. Home of Borulawski was nearby Banks Cottage, a building where the Count was also keen gardener.Boruwlaski had tools specially made to fit his height, and welcomed guests to visit him in his riverside plot.I am told that there's a monument to Boruwlaski somewhere in St Marys on South Bailey.
