I stayed here for one night, on a beautiful spring day in March. The place is absolutely perfect: situated at the back of a completely quiet square, quite close to the bus going into Durham city. Or you can take a scenic footpath towards the river with gorgeous views of the cathedral, mostly downhill, reaching the cathedral in just over half an hour. Franny is a wonderful host: I felt very welcome, and immediately at home in my spacious room with a good bed and a comfortable en-suite bathroom. She helped me to get my bearings in order to get into the city and we had a nice chat during a full English breakfast. Shame I didn't plan to stay longer, and I wholeheartedly recommend this place for anyone visiting this amazing city. Absolutely worth the five stars, and some.
