Something so lovely about this place, free from the trappings of a 'forced experience' when it is enough to just to be here and soak up the history and views. The gorgeous old coloured glass, creating prisms of colour in light are beautiful. This is a really unique experience. It's a fat climb up the spiralling wrought iron staircase (also beautiful) but worth every step. The final steps to the top look scarier than they are ( think ladder) and the view is a fabulous reward for your climb. I am very scared of heights, but as long as I have a sturdy barrier I am fine...the lighthouse has a sturdy barrier so I felt very safe! On a non-windy day you can go outside ( another excellent, sturdy barrier), a spectacular treat. We watched the chuffy train snaking across the landscape billowing a smokey greeting. Loved it!
