Esprit Engineering

Researched this garage to service a recently purchased Lotus Esprit S3 back in March. The garage overhauled the carburettors and changed the rear springs, new battery and general service. Was charged for 24 hours of labour which I thought was steep for the work done but the vehicle had been supposedly thoroughly checked. Couple of months later after less than 100 miles of driving the engine caught fire, the cause was a loose charge cable which the garage hadnt replaced but I would have expected to have been checked seeing the battery was flat and had to be replaced and had been charged 25 hours for the car to be filly checked over. The garage took the car back to repair but offered no discount and refused to take any responsibility. Having got it back for a second time I noticed the exhaust smoked a lot and the big end bearing rattled on startup. Again I was charge for another 24 hours labour for new alternator, carb rebuild for a second time some wire harness rebuild, cables, belts and fuel hoses! Again felt it was rather steep. Total spent nearly 5k over the two services! The smoking exhaust was a real problem so decided to recent decided to take the engine out and get it rebuilt by another lotus mechanic. When draining the oil it was like thick black treacle and had obviously not been change in the first service and the air filter was very black! Shame on you Esprit Engineering! Not a good experience and when asked to comment on my finding refused to comment. Just picked up my pride and joy from Esprit Engineering, terrific service and very upfront with the fact that these old girls might reveal a few extra jobs. All the old bits were on display for me to see and the engine work was top notch. Among other things a new radiator system is working beautifully and a new O2 sensor makes it run well.
