I then phoned Denbies View to make this appointment on an urgent basis, as our cat was now extremely unwell. My call was diverted to Faygate Practice, upon which I was told Denbies View was closed for 2 months, due to shortage of vets. I was then told to phone Brockham Practice (which I did), but after trying 3 times, each time the phone rang for some time and then cut off, I gave up and took the proactive decision to phone another non Medivet vet practice nearby, who agreed to help us, even though they had to apply for our cats health history from Denbies View (this was speedily provided by Faygate surgery).
Upon arriving at the new vet practice (not Medivet), our cat was found to have a high temperature/dehydrated and immediately placed on an iV drip. A blood test was also carried out, which much to our shock revealed liver weakness, lack of red blood cells (which the vet felt was very unusual why these were not being produced and due to something more sinister which was preventing this). The vet did not recommend a blood transfusion, as all the other ailments our cat had, would interfere with the success of this (even though successful treatment by way of transfusion could not be guaranteed anyway because of the lymphoma/cancer). After some thought and discussion, we had to make the heartbreaking/very upsetting decision to say our goodbyes to our beloved pet!!
Although the liver and elevated thyroid problems were diagnosed via a previous blood test carried out 3 weeks ago by Denbies View, why did they fail to pick up on the lack of red blood cells and lymphoma/cancer??? Surely, when our cat had her 1st blood test 3 weeks earlier at Denbies View, these other 2 things shouldve been revealed then,
Totally appalled by the shoddy and very unacceptable/unprofessional /unreliable service, though the reception staff and veterinary nurses, are always very friendly and professional at Denbies view.
