On 28/02/22 Derek Lewis Ltd were doing roadworks on Sheffield Road in Conisbrough. Due to the works taking place on widening the foot paths and resurfacing. The road was in a poor state due to aggregates left allover with works taking place. I was driving 20mph and a stone from the aggregates left on the road flicked up and cracked my windscreen. I initially went through Doncaster Council to submit a highways claim for the damage caused. Two weeks later Doncaster Council confirmed the contractors responsible are Derek Lewis Ltd and that my details had been passed on for the insurers to sort. When the company first got in contact with me they were insisting that I should go through my own insurance which I challenged and disputed with them. A day later Derek Lewis Ltd sent a copy of their public liability insurance and a reference number for me to proceed with their insurers. After trying to get through to Penn underwriting insurance who are based in London - the phone would get put down, I would be put through to the wrong dept or they didn't know anything about it. After finally getting through my details went through. Two weeks later the insurers emailed saying due to the value of the claim and being under 2,500 that it would not be possible for the claim to be covered. I had been phoning back and forth between insurers and Derek Lewis Ltd. A few days later, I received a phone call from their insurance broker who told me that I need to go through my insurance and pass Derek Lewis Ltd details on. After phoning my insurers there were two options, to pay 95 for a standard windscreen claim or a full investigational claim at 150 which affects my no claims and premium. I have since been in contact with Doncaster Council as i feel the issue is still not resolved after a month. With my car mot coming up it is important my windscreen is repaired and that my car can pass through mot. Doncaster Council said they would chase it up and that Derek Lewis Ltd should be getting in contact after providing incorrect insurance details for the claim. it has been 4 days and Derek Lewis Ltd have not been in contact or their insurers. The insurance broker for Derek Lewis has told me to get my windscreen repaired with my mot coming up. This has cost me 95.00 through auto windscreens. This company have been very unprofessional and during the process over the last month there has been conflicting advice from both sides. It is now 30/03/22 - It has been over a month since the incident happened, no further instruction or guidance through this claim has been set in stone. Derek Lewis Ltd and their insurers seem to be sweeping this under the carpet thinking the issue will go away. I've had no communication and feel like I have been left hanging. During this not even an apology for the damage caused by their works has been said. Would not recommend! AVOID
