Our son so enjoyed the Music Wonderland class. Oliver, the tutor, was superb. The lessons were engaging, well planned, and so fun! (For the children and grown ups alike!) I would very highly recommend this class to anyone with a toddler.

My son attended the Matrix music classes for over 4 years and while we enjoyed the live performances and they helped with his development and musical curiosity, the group lessons were much less effective. He was getting lost in the classes and making little progress so eventually, we decided to switch to private tuition. Once we had announced we were leaving, we were told he did not have the coordination for 2 handed playing and we were recommended to choose a different instrument - this was after 4 years on taking our money! Since, having private tuition, he has thrived; the first thing the tutor spotted was his hand posture was all wrong and with some encouragement he has developed and passed grade 1 with a distinction and is now an accomplished player but I would say 90% of his progress has taken place since he left matrix. They try and lure you in at such a young age with all this stuff about how good learning an instrument music is for children's brain development, but I would say this learning environment works well for parents with musical backgrounds who can support the child in the lesson but less so for those without

At Matrix, I learned to love music in all its forms. I formed connections with peers through group lessons and ensemble playing, learned to listen to music in a way that sparked my imagination, and discovered how to express myself through composition. I found the Yamaha Music Course at Matrix accessible and inspiring, and Matrix itself is a wonderful place to learn, setting me up for a life-long positive relationship with music. It's thanks to this that music forms a large part of my life now: I compose music for piano, write and perform pop music, and am doing a music degree at the University of Oxford, and I find that I'm using skills I learned at Matrix in everything I do! [I took music lessons at Matrix for fourteen years, starting at age four and following both group music lessons and (as I got older) individual piano lessons at the school.]
