The people at Daresbury battle on even though the government seems hell bent on shutting down the site. I say hell bent and the government but it is probably more correct to say STFC and strongly encouraging. I say that for simple things like the closing of the SRS and transfer of the equivalent facility to the south site. The recent rounds and rounds of funding cuts, facility closures and redundancies.
Sadly I think it was a lack of strong leadership at the very top of the Daresbury site, I'm talking about those at director level, who did not defend the site like they should have. The result the next layer of excellent staff below were left to firefight the worsening position. What was it they said "monkeys riding on the backs of lions"?
In terms of facilities they were once world leading and still are home to a series of lovely looking buildings. Sadly they lost the Costa and have become a StarBucks site. The canteen food has improved significantly in recent years.
