We were given a tour of the school by the headteacher who struggled to crack a smile the entire time. None of the teaching staff acknowledged us, the children were sat like robots at their desks. None of them were smiling. The sole focus of the head teacher's chat was the academic results achieved. She spoke of not allowing children to climb trees in their wooded area as this was seen as misbehaving. The school felt overly formal and unwelcoming and the head appeared to be on a huge power trip. I want my child to engage in focused learning but not at the expense of her sparkling personality or sense of adventure. Academic results, particularly in years 1 and 2, are not the be all and end all and I think Twiss Green would do well to work harder at ensuring their environment is more inviting for adults and children.
