Very disappointed that the church was locked on a Sunday. The warden refused to come and open the church, therefore, as much as we loved the church from the outside, I cannot give 5 stars. The oldest parts of theChurch of England parish churchofAll Saintsare 12th-centuryNorman. They include the arch of the west tower and the three-baynortharcade. The south arcade, also of three bays, is 13th-centuryEarly English Gothic. In the 14th century new windows were inserted, theclerestoryand north and south porches were added. ThefontwasRomanesquebut was re-cut in the 14th or 15th century. Thepulpitis 17th-century. All Saints is aGrade I listed building. In the 14th century a series of murals was painted inside the church including numerous scenes from the life ofJesusand aDoom painting. The wall paintings were painted over during theReformationin the 16th century, but were rediscovered in 1921 and restored in 1960. The west tower of All Saints has aringof five bells. All were cast and hung byJohn Taylor & CoofLoughboroughin 1923. In All Saints' churchyard southeast of thechancelare the base and broken shaft of a Medieval stone cross. An historicelmreputedly stood in the churchyard for 800 years. It is believed to have died ofDutch elm diseasein the 1970s, but its demise was in the early 1900s.
