My son who has been learning piano since he was 6 years old, found a new love for music when he stated with Gary in 2021. Gary has patiently worked with him to find the kind of music he would like and slowly bringing him up to the standard he should be in. I am grateful to Gary for grooming my son from just learning piano to loving piano. I will highly recommend him.

I am an adult learner and have had piano lessons with Gary for the last 4/5 years having tried - unsuccessfully - to learn as a child. I did not expect it would become such a source of pleasure and fulfilment. As well as the quality of teaching, which I can only describe as inspiring, lessons with Gary have opened up a much wider understanding of what musicianship is, and how to aspire to it: how to practise, how to focus, whilst developing skills and technique at a pace that is right for you. Gary always listens and understands the needs of his students: his unfailing patience, encouragement, and good humour make his lessons highly enjoyable and motivating, leaving one impatient to get home to practice. I have also attended short courses: Cadences in Bach, and Chopin's Ballade 1. Gary really brought the music to life, teaching us how to better approach, and appreciate, a musical composition. Practical demonstration, as well as live performance, made for an extremely enlightening, as well as enjoyable, course. I look forward to more!

Gary is a wonderful piano teacher; kind, patient and knowledgeable. I cannot recommend him too highly. I've been learning piano with him for several years (off and on as work circumstances dictated) but I always return to Gary whenever I have the chance to study piano. :-)

Having retired, I nervously signed up for Garys Returning to the Piano class at the City Lit having not played the piano seriously for years. Gary s course really inspired me and I joined one of his classes where I learnt a huge amount, not least, how to practise and to understand the music better through the theory. Gary understands the difficulties for adult learners and encouraged us all, recognising our different skills and developing an atmosphere of trust and respect in the group. He made the class fun and enjoyable as well as challenging, in a good way. I had a couple of individual lessons with him where I found him patient and understanding and he gives very helpful advice. After several years, I needed to join a more advanced class and I decided to have individual lessons. Unfortunately, Gary lives a long way from me, so it is not possible to do these with him. But because of him, I really have returned to the piano with added skills and confidence and playing the piano has become a very important part of my life. Thank you, Gary.
