Vi & John Rubens House (Jewish Care)

Some of the staff need training in respect and understanding to residents and there family. I am taking my complaint to the ombudsman. Some of the staff HAVE NO COMPASSION to residents and there family. Some of the staff HAVE NASTY and SPITEFUL TONGUES and should not comment on personal family matters.

My mum is a resident here. They are a lovely bunch and do an amazing job.

My Dad spent about four months at Vi and John. He was not in good shape and needed a lot of help and support. He had advanced dementia so it was not easy to connect or communicate with him well. Regardless of this, the care team at Vi and John (on Sugar Wing) gave him time, help, understanding and empathy and were unfailingly kind and caring no matter how challenging things could be from time to time. They don't have an easy job by any means from the minute they start work to the time they finish and hand over. However, none of the care team complain or present anything other than a caring approach no matter how hard the job can be sometimes. Also, because they enter resident data on hand held devices that look like mobile phones, I'm sure some visitors might think they are on their phones rather than doing their job entering data about the small group of residents they are allocated responsibility for that day. I spent a lot of concentrated time at Vi and John and got to know many of the care team reasonably well. They are all really decent people who put the interests of their residents first even on tough days when they might be short-staffed due to planned or unplanned absence and residents might need even more care and attention than usual. I can't speak highly enough of the care my Dad received at Vi and John and I wanted to post a review to get the message out there for this group of people who come to work and dedicate themselves to looking after - and really deep down caring for - our loved ones when we can't.
