Heywood Prep School & Nursery

A wonderfully nurturing school with the child placed at the heart of everything they do. A varied and exciting curriculum full of opportunities and exciting activities. So pleased we made the move to Heywood.

When the school was bought by Wishford they advertised like mad got rid of all the special needs facilities and then kicked me out said "We do not have the facilities to attend to your needs" so basically they kicked me out because i have autism it is disgusting

Our boys moved to Heywood when they were in year 1 and year 4, and we've never looked back. It was a tough decision getting to the point where we decided to move them from a school where they were happy, but yet where we as their parents didn't feel they were getting a high quality education from passionate and caring teachers. They were both in what we called 'the forgotten middle' where they weren't in need of additional support and nor were they considered talented and gifted, and so they drifted through their school days in large classes, ticking the boxes when it came to the expected progression of their learning. In making the decision, we did a lot of soul searching on our part, a lot of wondering if they'd be ok, we chatted with existing parents, and had lots of chats with Mrs Mitchell about the individual young people they were. And then came the huge leap of faith! Within weeks we were saying "if only we'd done it sooner!" Our eldest is now in year 7 at secondary school - a school we truly don't believe he would have gone to if it weren't for the Heywood teaching and preparation. Our youngest is in year 4, still at Heywood and is so very happy. There is a Prep school at our eldest's secondary school, and although logistically it would be much easier to have them both in the same place, we've seen and experienced the Heywood magic and it's important to us that he gets that too through to the end of his primary school years. The teachers are amazing, each of them passionate about their particular subject. They care for the kids as the individual people they are. They encourage each of them, gently, to aim for their best. It couldn't be further from 'the forgotten middle'!

Fantastic school and nursery. My granddaughters are lucky enough to go here and are both flourishing!

An excellent school! My son and daughter started attending Heywood Prep in nursery and they are now in Year 3 &5, Heywood have always catered for their individual interests and the teachers are great, they genuinely care about each child, giving them great opportunities! Overall my children come home happy as they love school so that ticks all the boxes for me as a parent! I cant praise the school enough, they are amazing!
