Higher Ground Meadow

If you want a genuinely empathetic natural burial for a relative or friend, Higher Ground Meadow is perfect. No interaction with the "death industry", personal care and attention from picking up my aunt from the hospital, looking after her until the day and on the day: I could not have wished for a more caring team than Jo and her family. Their barn for our choice of secular service was perfect. The very necessary catharsis of choosing the spot in the meadow with amazing views, sharing the celebration of her life then family and friends moving her wicker coffin on a wooden bier and lowering her into the grave with the (present but never intrusive) guidance of Jo and her son helped everyone present to deal positively with their feelings on an emotional day. The meadow is very accessible for the more elderly and mobility restricted, allowing everyone to feel completely involved. I couldn't recommend them more highly and simply do not recognise the one very negative review on here from my experience. Of course a natural burial ground has restrictions on what you can place in the grave and on it at all times; if you want a grave with permanent markers and a place for objects on it, then Higher Ground Meadow is not for you: this is a place where a return to earth and sustainable eventual invisibility is the aim. The woodland elements of the Ground allow more flexibility with markers, but my aunt wanted the ultimate invisibility of the meadow where wildflowers bloom and sheep graze when their splendour has passed each year. Additionally, the cost including the sourcing of the wicker coffin, use of the barn and their undertaking from start to finish was significantly less than any prepaid or post paid arrangement with the better-advertised death industry firms.

Just attended a service for a neighbour and this is a beautiful place to be laid to rest. Peaceful, tranquil, restful. Lovely service in the barn which had great views.

This place is great. The setting is beautiful and the services provided were outstanding. My mum chose the plot herself before she died, we couldn't have found a better resting place for her. Highly recommended. Thank you Higher Ground for everything.

If you have children and want to take them to visit the loved family member who you are laying to rest Do Not pick this place. Tom is rude and has no compassion. They are very happy to take your money, then once thats sorted, their true colours show. I am heart broken to have to leave my mother there. These people should not be allowed to run a burial ground. The burial ground should be for the living to be with their loved lost ones. Please take care of yourselves in the car park as my son was very close to being run over by tom speeding in his big car .
