This Cross, in the centre of the Square, was erected in 1897 on the base of an ancient Market Cross. Inscriptions on the face of the base read: "This Cross was erected to commemorate the 60th year of the reign of Queen Victoria"; "VR 1837-1897"; "Erected on the steps of the Ancient Market Cross". The Pump on the east side of the Cross is timber cased, with a lead spout and a circular plaque with the Town Seal. The Village Cross and Pump are Grade II Listed Buildings.
