My partner and I had the pleasure of a truly bucolic retreat to Linnels Farm, after what has been a tumultuous year for us all. The setting alone is simply dazzling. The perfect coalescence of rustic authenticity meets artful chicness, be that the 250 year old converted barn where we stayed (The Granary) or the equally marvelling workshop situated next door. Set in the tranquil grounds of the farm, we were made to feel at home instantaneously by the lovely Karen and Simon - such warming hosts we both were immediately struck by their genuine exuberance (no wonder Hexham was voted 'the happiest place to live' by Rightmove!) and interest in helping us maximise our time in Northumberland. The set-up, on site, is nothing short of majestic. Sprawling with colour, i was overwhelmed by the lush array of plants (exotic tulips especially!), livestock (ducks, geese, chickens and my favourite, Maria, the Goat) and the all round idyllic ambiance - this gives River Cottage a run for its money! The location is perfectly suited to ambles along Hadrian's wall, Fish & Chips at Tynemouth and plenty of astonishing National Trust properties and gardens - all of which are greatly rewarded by the return to a very cosy, beautifully furnished and wholly remedial barn. On top of the setting, ambiance and location, what struck us most was the attention to detail, especially the local produce put out for our arrival (even the soap was made at Linnels Farm!). Overall, without doubt, one of the most welcoming and restorative stays i have ever enjoyed. We shall be back very soon and i look forward to taking a course or 3 with Linnels Farm alongside.
