I have worked in the lake district for quite some time and I love the area. My mother came up to visit me and we popped into this little cafe for coffee. Everything was fine until I asked about vegan cake options. The guy behind the counter's attitude totally flipped and he was being rude and sarcastic. There was a back and forth conversation between him and his coworker for about 10 minutes, as he asked her if there was eggs or dairy in a couple of the cakes. They had no idea what they were selling. And it is so dangerous for customers when you don't have any knowledge of the allergens in your own food. We decided to just get a couple coffees and say no thanks to the cake, since no one had a clue what the ingredients were. When he brought is the coffees, they were lukewarm and tasteless. (nowhere over 40c.) My mum was kinda disappointed by this, so I told her not to worry, and I went back inside to talk with him. I explained that our coffees were almost cold and that we really just felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. He then proceeded to rant to me about how he was a skilled professional and that a mistake like this wasn't possible. I just asked him for a refund which he argued against. But I insisted. I have no idea what this guy's name was but he had a South African accent. (just incase you encounter the arse). At the end of the day, don't bother. I will and I will recommend the apple pie caf in Ambleside. Best Caf in Cumbria, and lovely people. As you can see, the reply from the owner below is a perfect example of the rude and sarky behaviour. Do yourself a favour.. Give these a**holes a miss

We were planning on going to The Meadowdore cafe but it only opened at 10, so we called here instead. I ordered a coffee (2.80) and eggs on toast (6) and found that it was very expensive. It came with 2 small pieces of sourdough bread which was nice but reinforced the 'very expensive' comment above. Both poached eggs were hard and if I hadn't been so hungry, I would have sent them back. I had to wait 5 minutes to get a knife and fork. Service wasn't great. Upon entering, three menus were handed over but before we'd even looked at it, we were asked if we were paying together or separate. Mid order, the staff member then turned his attention to 2 guests who came in who were residents. My friend had a full english (12) and a latte (3.20) and that was not good value at all. My other friend had porridge, pancakes and a latte (at a total of 13.20). I have to say that they accommodated his request for oat milk in his porridge and coffee which was good, but the prices were simply too steep. All three of us did not feel that we had any value for money here at all and would not go back unless everywhere else was closed.
