We pulled into the car park thinking it looks like a 1960s motel... with a random helipad. Lots of car parking with very few guests. We took in the view of Outlane /Sowood and was pleasantly surprised of the views. We checked in with a member of staff called James. At first... it was an impression of him not wanting to be there... (continue reading) We walked in with the Pram for our 9 momth old to find out they dont have a lift so we left the pram downstairs The room was spacious, called a Superior room and, it was good for what we needed. Complimentary juice, water, tea, coffee, tassimo pod machine, and biscuits. Big bright bathroom with a large bath, over head shower head and mobile shower head. Bed was comfortable and fluffy pillows....but it was roasting, we later found out the boiler had broken and couldn't turn heating off but the radiator had a TRV so we turned it down and opened the windows. I popped down for a high chair to feed baby, James was helpful and brought it up to the room. Baby fed, time to feed ourselves... We left the room just gone 7pm with the sound of Emmerdale theme tune. Restaurant was closed so went to the bar. We ordered bottle of wine and pint of lemonade at 26 quid Soon after we ordered 2 chicken burgers at approx 7.15pm A table of 6 ordered after us. Come 8pm, the person we placed the order with ran out the door, I think to get a lift home... soon after, the table of 6 got their food... Come 8.15pm approx, James, from reception who was now serving was then, changing a barrel, then sorting a leak out in someones room, raced back to check in guests so it appeared quite stressful for him... At 8.45pm i approached James and asked on the whereabouts of the food after witnessing the table of 6 devour their dinners... When i explained i had waited an hour and half for the food he was shocked and tried to find out whats happened. A waitress was questioned but didn't seem to care at this point with "its not come through to the kitchen" James retook our orders and got the chef to get them out at 9.15pm... 2 hours for 2 chicken burgers. James was brilliant and never judge a book by its cover! James sorted us out with free drinks for us both, as the bottle of wine had disappeared by this time. James was truly caring and mortified by the level of service. Almost as if he owned the place. We had a good sleep, and checked out with ease. I can't give it an excellent score but I can't really mark it overly down. I'm marking as average as good sleep and spacious rooms but it appears the technology communication between kitchen and the bar let it down, but also the decor felt dated. I'd like this review to reach out to the owners and please visit Cave Castle at South Cave, I feel Pennine Manor could be something spectacular, with a spa/sauna/gym, and updated decor but still keep the feel of a countryside manor
