Thank you very much to the staff at The George Tea Room for accommodating my friends baby shower. From the quick correspondence when booking the tea, the delicious food and the fantastic staff who were so attentive with top ups of tea. Followed by drinks in the adjoining pub. I'm sure we will be back soon for another visit. Thank you!

Customer service was good. Staff are attentive! The selections of tea was nice. The afternoon tea was not great overall. The sandwhiches (bread) were dry and not fresh . The desserts were not to my liking the Rubarb triffle was tastless. I would say it is not good value.

Husband booked afternoon tea, as birthday treat, Little disappointed that was in main restaurant as it was Thursday but not the end of the world. Tea arrived and had been displayed nicely, 1 star, sandwiches were lovely, bread very fresh etc. 1 star. Then moving onto the fruit scone, which looked absolutely lovely, shame it wasnt. When cut into the scone it still raw in some parts. We called the waiter over who returned it to the kitchen. He came back saying that it would take 10mins for chef to cook some more. Now I didnt have a problem with waiting but was rather worried as it takes longer than 10mins to bake a batch of scones. What came back was the original scone that he had put under the grill and then sent back to us. And of course there was still raw dough, which we sent back again, next they brought out something that looked somewhere between a scone and a tea cake, except it had no fruit and was far more brioche bun like, which we again sent back, next we were sent out a mass produced scone which I have bought better in the supermarket. In the end after getting the manager involved who confirmed that there was nothing scone like in the kitchen, that he was prepared to let go out. He did refund our tea but then again we had only had a pot of tea and a crust less sandwich and we left. Come on The George, dont treat your customers as if they are stupid and get your act together!

My birthday present was afternoon tea, we got there for 2pm and waited until 2.20 until someone asked if we were being seen to. Then waited another 10-15 minutes until the food stand came out but had to wait for tea and wasn't given a choice of teas (as stated on menu) just normal plain tea, and not even a cup and saucer a mug?. The room was so noisy not relaxing. Being disabled it's not very disabled friendly as having to go down 2 sets of stairs then up another set of stairs to the room and had to wait for a table and it wasn't even laid ready for us. I've had way better afternoon tea at half the price, and the table set to make it an experience. Sorry but I wouldn't recommend to friends which is a shame as my grandfather was a head chef at the George hotel for 30 years.

Lovely venue, just like a little tea room! The crockery was great, the unusual teapots a nice touch and the service was OK. However.....the sandwiches weren't made freshly as they were slightly dry and the gluten free ones were almost inedible. There were salmon, egg/cress, coronation chicken (no chicken) and mushroom/goats cheese (I think, no-one ate those). The t-bags came out as requested rather than putting a selection on the table (two types on the list weren't available) water jugs and glasses were put on table but one jug had previously had orange juice in and still had the residue in it. On a positive note, the scones were nice and fresh and the trifle, macaroons, banana cake, and chocolate triangle were nice. All for 28....sorry to say I've had better.
