The current Church of St Edward in Hopton Castle dates from 1870 though the site predates this by many centuries. The rough stone construction is in the Decorated Gothic style, featuring characteristic cusped lancet windows, quatrefoils and ogee arches. The scissor braced timber roof encapsulates the nave, with contemporary pews and an intricately carved pulpit. The chancel is home to choir stalls, encaustic tiles and a harmonium. Hopton Castle became its own parish in the 13th century. Before this it was a dependent chapelry of nearby Clun.
