The White House Guest House

For one night only, never to be repeated! As I have been diagnosed with a terminal ailment, my son and I decided to make 'memories' by touring the lake district, starting at Armathwaite, a place special to me, stop the night in Penrith then move on to windermere, take a boat trip to Ambleside before returning home. Checked in to the White House and were greeted by a very friendly landlady at about 4 pm. My son had a double room (3) and I had a single (1) we found our rooms to be very cold and went to sleep fully dressed wearing our bathrobes on top. Sleeping in this attire was quite uncomfortable and wasn't conducive to a good night's sleep. Having dozed on and off throughout the night traffic noise from a nearby motorway disturbed any little sleep I managed to get. During my waking moments I drank tea and coffee but there were only 5 sachets of sugar provided. In boredom I stared at the ceiling and spotted several cobwebs at the wall / ceiling junction. (The host was made aware of it.) Breakfast was as requested the night before with plenty of choice although the sausages were rather overcooked and dried up. Feeling very tired and miserable due to lack of sleep we cancelled the remainder of our trip and returned 200 miles home. The objective was to make lasting memories and we most certainly did!
