There are many reasons to visit this church. The location on a knoll high above the Thames provides a lovely view of the river and bridge: we watched the old tradition of Swan-Upping from there. Inside the church (the key is available from a shop nearby) is some fine stained glass including a wonderful St Michael slaying a fierce blue dragon. There is much else to see of this gem of restoration, early work of the architect of St Pancreas Station and many churches. The graveyard is small but graves there provide a glimpse into military history. William Dyke who fought at Waterloo is there. So is David John Shannon, one of the "Dambusters". Nearby lies Major John Howard who led the famous glider-borne raid on what became known as " Pegasus Bridge" in honour of the Airborne Brigade, a key action in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Near them is the grave of Peter A Standing, a pilot and recipient of the South Atlantic Medal as well as the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air.

The chamber, comely, well looked after, functioning church located on the hillock with pretty stained-glass windows and marvellous views from the cliff, reminds scenery from Jerome k Jerome book, leaves a very pleasant impressions

Beautiful church lots of history and close ties to Dorchester Abbey. The St Micheals Ley Line is marked by this church. The male current touches the monument on the steps then winds its way to Dorchester. The grass area outside the church was once a small port for the ferry.
