The airport closed as it was unviable in the current market. It is tucked away in the extreme South-East corner of Kent and was built for wartime. The RAF left in 1999 having no further use for it. The current owner says they want to reopen it as a freight hub for the UK. Thousands of houses and flats are being built around the outskirts of the airport land now so it is unlikely it can be used again with noisy and polluting freight aircraft.

Hopefully the airport reopens soon. It closed in 2014. Reopening the airport would create thousands of new jobs, and benefit the local population. The aviation industry is not to blame for climate change. It contributes a tiny amount. Let the airport reopen!
