The Dowers House B&B is located off a private road, away from traffic, with a lovely view of mountains and Lake Windermere, in the Lakes District of Great Britain. Our room had a queen size bed, and table with a hospitality tray, and a chair to sit and admire the amazing view from the window. The shower was electric, and supplied adequate hot water. The bathroom is small. Shampoo and soap was supplied as well as a hairdryer. There were no washcloths. The room is freshened daily. Breakfast was delicious and served at a time of our choosing. There was a berry compote with fresh, homemade yogurt which was amazing. That was in addition to any cereals and hot breakfast of your liking. You certainly wouldn't leave hungry! Because the B&B is rather remote, Margaret, who runs it, offers in house dinner several evenings during the week. We chose to stay in one night and avoid the crowds in the restaurants. She made Baked Salmon, Potatoes Aquetta, Asparagus, French Fries, and Tiramisu for dessert. Coffee and/or tea was also available, and we were told that we could bring in our own bottle of wine. We had a delightful evening, as the two other couples had also chosen to eat dinner in, and we had a grand time chatting. There is a parlor adjacent to the breakfast room, on the downstairs level, where one can relax in front of a cozy fire. There are many books for perusing, and a television if you choose to watch it. There are no tvs in the bedrooms, which we actually prefer. Since we were there during the mourning period of the Queen, we did take advantage of the television to watch some of the historical ceremony. There is a private car park in front of the house. To my knowledge, the bedrooms are all upstairs, so you must be able to carry your luggage up to your room. There was wi-fi, which was painfully slow due to the location of the house. The only downside to the stay was securing the room via payment. The policy is cash only for the first night, and that meant setting up a transfer in funds from the US. I was not familiar with this type of transaction, and my bank charged outrageous fees. It was suggested that I look somewhere else. I'm certainly glad that I did not listen. I used a company called Wise, and although it took well over a week for the funds to transfer, it was very low cost in the end. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxed and peaceful get away, this is your place!
