Mariam, at Semley Place was wonderful, patient, informative and gave very good instructions. Every question was answered. Helpful phone numbers were circled and we were reminded that we had taken out the full insurance, so there would be no out of pocket expenses, besides fuel. Also, we had paid extra for roadside assistance, so we would never be stranded. There were scratches on the car panels that weren't noted on the hire paperwork, which made me feel uncomfortable, and the car wasn't washed. It had road grime all over. The interior had been cleaned but the strong chemical smell of the carpet cleaner/deodoriser made it hard to breathe with the windows up. As we drove along a warning light came on the dashboard saying we need to reduce the oil level. Then another saying the car is due for a service. Neither of these are a big deal but I felt obliged to call and let them make that decision. It was 2pm on a Wednesday and we sat on the side of the road, calling the circled number on the back of the europcar envelope. After a very long wait, a recorded message told us there was nobody available to answer our call. We phoned head office and told them the problem but she couldn't advise us. We asked her to put us through to the branch that we hired it from at Semley Place in London and a recorded message said there was nobody to help us. I'd hate to imagine what would happen if we actually needed help at 2pm on a weekday. I give zero stars for customer access to service staff. And zero stars for cleaning the car, which made it difficult to check for scratches. Staff at europcar in Penzance wouldn't check our returned car for scratches until they had washed it, so something didn't write add up there. Great desk staff, wonderfully trained in their product - but the roadside assistance and car detailing team let them down. All aspects are important parts of hiring a car.
