        My husband found this place to serve as a break between Durham and Pembroke. It was very unusual. The gatehouse was particularly fascinating with all its carvings. The main castle has an unusual feature in the Great hall - a fire hearthon the floor in the middle of the room. If heard about it, but have never seen one. The ceiling was very high and when we went to the upper room we could see the roofing tiles. They were made of stone and are several inches thick. Using the audio guide is very helpful. Finally, the gift store sells some unusual souvenirs, and also sells plants for the garden Definitely plan to go back and take the kids and grandkids!
