There was a cold snap during our stay, snow and temperatures down to about -5C. We saw the forecast and emailed to ask if we could reschedule. The answer was no, since they were open as normal and the camping pods are 'all year round.' We had booked through groupon who were also unwilling to look at rescheduling since the merchant is willing to carry out the service despite the weather. So we packed our gear and headed over. On arrival the pod was freezing so we plugged in the heater to warm it up while we went to the Station Inn for a very good meal. On our return the pod was still very cold but we wrapped up and went to sleep in our fairly decent winter spec sleeping bags. That night was so cold, and not a good night's sleep was had by either of us despite extra blankets and sleeping fully clothed. In the morning we were so cold we could barely move but there was just no way to get warm. We both took a shower in the communal shower block to warm up but the towels would never dry in that freezing pod so we wouldn't be able to use that option again. My husband went to ask at reception if there was a better heater available or anything they could do about the extreme cold. They allowed us to take a heater out of a vacant pod but on entering, it had already been taken. There were no other heaters available. The only option we were offered was to upgrade, at full price, to a vacant 'lodge' with proper heating. We were willing to pay something towards upgrading but charging us full price just shows no understanding or empathy for the problem we were presented with in staying there, never mind an admission of wrongdoing by advertising these pods as 'all year round' when the small electric radiator provided couldn't do anything against the cold. Leaving the pod in the morning, it was actually warmer outside. Well, call us stubborn but we refused to pay to upgrade and we had a second freezing night in the pod and first thing in the morning, jumped in the car with the heaters going full blast.
The more luxurious (and heated) megapods look great, the area is lovely and the camping pods are probably alright in good weather but don't advertise them as an all year option unless you're willing to put in some proper heaters.
So a word of warning to those who might want to book a camping pod, warm weather only.
