Absolutely fantastic place. Although I suspect readers are wondering about the boatel cruises. I currently have a landbound barge at this dockyard, where the Boatel Cruises are launched, which is why Google keeps nagging me to produce some sort of review about a business that operates from here. I have actually been on a boatel cruise, perhaps 5/6 years ago? It was a Larkinesque summer's day and we were seaward bound (artistic licence) when the sun rose over the mainstay. As the majestic Sol rose against a dramatic background of indigo, navy, blue sky all aboard marvelled at the majesty of nature. Not really. It WAS a lovely, warm summer's day but we weren't seaward bound. We were on the Leeds/Liverpool canal, it was 11am, no kids and we'd just opened the booze at the start of this 50th birthday party. We chugged along, taking turns to pilot the treacherous canal. At one point, several beers in I must add, we grounded on a mud bank. We got the women to push us off the bank, which they did, admirably, and continued our sally down the waterways of Lancashire. To be honest everything else is in a sort of Vodka blurred haze, but it was beautiful. We did make it back to the dock, on time. With the boat, undamaged. So I guess I'm saying give it a go. I only rated it Four stars so that folk will read the review to see what's wrong. Nowt. Nothing is wrong. You pay a reasonable price to have control of a narrow boat on a canal for a few hours. You convince yourself the boat is under maritime law at some point after alcohol and then, when the cocaine is all gone, you turn that boat around and go home. Good Times. They also have a party boat which a twice the width of a normal barge and has a bar. Seriously, it has a bar. And a DJ if required. Surround sound, bar, DJ. Anything else you must provide, such as food or whatever. But it is a fun event, whatever the occasion.
