The guides were very knowledgeable and explained the history and significance of the house very well. They not only explained the Jacobean wood panelling dates from 1760 but how they worked it out with expert help.
A lot of the house is original from when the golf club took over in the 1890s Just remember its been altered a lot over the other 300 years right up to Napoleon IIIs residency. He apparently designed the central heating.
Other latecomers were accommodated with another guide taking them through the bits they missed. I stuck with the group but skipped out before before the end but dont feel I missed anything.
On the website for the golf club they offer private tours, worth it for a look into the local history of one of its famous inhabitants.
Upstairs are private apartments so sadly are not open.
