For such a small village, St Michael's Church in Chirbury is very impressive. Originally a 12th century Augustinian monastery, the coarse limestone structure is dressed with pink sandstone like that of Powys Castle. The North and South aisles were a 13th century addition, and the arcades inside visibly slope outwards to meet the lean to roofs. The roof timbers form an attractive quatrefoil pattern, and date from the 15th century. In the south aisle, a 13th century piscina and aumbrey as well as some original medieval tiles. The font has not been dated, but its rough-hewn design suggest early medieval, or perhaps a different original function.
