We spent a couple of hours here. The voluntary staff are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. There is a shop and buffet to buy gifts, snacks and drinks. There is also a gallery showing images to do with railways going back decades, displays and books. They run both diesel and steam train runs. Great place. Parking not available outside station as private so park further in town.

We purchased our tickets online, but bear in mind you cannot use cash on site. Not ideal for children wanting to spend their pocket money unless they have mobiles or their own bank card. The nearest parking is in the town by the library. It costs 6 for the day, or 1 per hour, except on Sundays when it is 2 for the day. With that in mind, it is a great day out. There are gift shops at Ongar and North Weald stations. You can chat with any of the staff and volunteers about the trains, buses etc. There is a diesel engine which takes you into Epping Forest (turns here, no station). We boarded a heritage bus which unfortunately broke down so we decided to take the diesel engine to the forest. By the time we returned the bus had been fixed. A really fun day out.
