Barchester - Southerndown Care Home

We have been taking my mother on holiday since we lost my father in 2011. However due to a fall in 2019 subsequently resulting in her being wheelchair bound, this has not been possible. My mother already resides at another Barchester home is Lichfield and they suggested a short respite at another Barchester home. We chose Southerndown as it's in a lovely area and not too far a drive. We are so glad we did, we were greeted on arrival by the friendly Manager Rossalyn and her lovely care team. Nothing was too much trouble for the team and they went over and above in ensuring mum's needs were met with care and efficiency. Although mum was very apprehensive before her visit, she settled in very quickly and we were also given the same care and attention. We had initially thought we would have breakfast on the first morning but ended up going every day during our visit to the Cotswolds and we were given our own private dining area enabling us to have quality family meal time with mum, we were even given games to play on the last day as the weather was not as warm as it had been on the previous two days. I would highly recommend the care at this home and also the attention to detail in making both the resident (my mum) and families welcome. My mum said at the end of the holiday that she wished it was just beginning and she highly praised the care team and the level of care she had received during her stay. Well done Southerndown in making the holiday possible for mum and for taking such good care of both her and the family during our stay on the Cotswolds

Mum has been here for 5 months now and staff have proven to be incredibly warm and caring. When I asked her to describe Southerndown she responded 'Friendly'. She is as content and settled as she can be in her circumstances

My brother has been at Southerndown for over a year. The sensitivity and patience of the staff are remarkable. The genuine sympathy that they show - in spite of residents who are not always easy - is really heart-warming. It is a real achievement to create a sense of community among residents who are no longer completely themselves but the staff - managers, nurses, occupational therapists, carers, chef, maintenance staff, cleaners etc - all work together to create an atmosphere that is welcoming and cheerful.
