Having previously noted a sign in Whitfield stating 'Starter and alternator service', I made a call then headed over there.
PCM Services is not brand spanking new by any means, but a wonderful emporium of shelves loaded with starters, alternators and much more. For a change it looked to me like they wouldn't have to wait for a part to arrive as surely what my van needed was in there somewhere! I was right.
'John' grabbed a socket and got right down to business and found that 'the inexperienced boys' nearby had split the 'O' ring when attaching the vacuum pump to the new alternator. That plus a faulty clip on a hose were causing a lot of oil to pour out.
When done, in about 25 minutes, John crawled under the van and asked me to start the engine. He was checking for leaks, and his thoroughness impressed me further.
The cost was negligible considering I had paid way over normal at the other garage.
If only I lived in the Whitfield/Dover area!
