Atmospheric ambience spoilt by indifferent service and outrageously high prices for a small paper cup of tea, with a tea bag dumped in the cup.

Im afraid to say I agree with the negative comments, even though I really dont want to !!! I have always loved the building, I enjoy the food and love it being organic and home made. And, I understand all the very good reasons behind why they have chosen to use paper cups, but honestly it doesnt do this delightfully quaint old coffee shop any favours at all. It simply does not work for the overall ambience, organic taste, olde world feel, look, or ultimately their business! Regardless of the huge list they pop on your tray covering off all the reasons why they supply your soup in a paper cup, people dont want it. It doesnt work. People don't like it. And for the money they charge for this food, and drink I just dont think its going down well. And why it was empty when we were there, midday. It is a real shame. I cant see this will go well if they dont change it back.

Im going to give this five stars rather than one because Im actually glad we visited for the experience. This is a must do in Chichester. The red and green traffic lights at the entrance were only a hint if what to expect. Upon entering youre immediately transported back to a world where everything was analogue. Perhaps somewhere Dickens mightve been inspired over a Latte. Along the route to the food and drink counter you pass a bizarre protruding blue piece of leaf or fungus oddly framed. If you scan the dark corners youll be lucky to spot a missing section from the Bayeux Tapestry. Everywhere there are large laminated signs with orders, instructions and statements. The food and drink (we had coffees and a scone) are served in takeaway cups and well below par. The coffee is weak and the scones barely taste of much and far too moist and crumbly. Everything is organic which I commend, but its not great product even if it is prepared there (as pointed out by a laminated sign). Suddenly I felt a cold chill and glimpsed a strange shadow move furtively across the room. It turned out to be the owner forcing a couple of middle aged women to abruptly halt at his home made Stop sign before being summoned into the depths. Bordering on rudeness they were much bemused. As were we. It was time for us to leave. We ignored the arrow on the reverse of the stop sign pointing to the One Way exit. As an ex punk we made an anarchic exit through the entrance. I fear we may be blacklisted now!

This place used to be great. Hadn't been for a few years and I don't know what's happened! Hardly a soul in there, probably because there were only 3 choices for lunch, all were very expensive and what we chose was lukewarm and left us hungry and it cost 7.50 each! Another option was a cheese and onion toasted sandwich for a huge 8.50! What was described as a 'mug' of coffee was actually served in a small paper cup and (with milk at 50p) cost 3.95! I had to have tap water as I wanted a cold drink and they only offer sparkling water or a fruit and veg juice for a massive 5.95!!! Spent just under 20 for a coffee and 2 dragon cakes (which are just small veggie patties, which weren't even crispy, served with nothing) and we were both still hungry. Had room for cake but the few on offer looked so dry and boring. Shame, as I agree with what they're trying to do with the organic and vegan food, but they are doing it badly and being really greedy with the prices. Even organic veg doesn't cost that much! Won't be going back and wouldn't recommend. Charge less, offer more, have more customers. Vegetarian options: Small portions for maximum money.
