Chester Station sits at the end of City Road, in the north-east area of Chester city centre. The station services train routes for Merseyrail, Northern, and Virgin Trains. Bus services supporting local routes and also nearby towns like Wrexham and Mold are situated at the station. Chester had a second station at Northgate once, so until 1969 this station was known as Chester General. It was opened in 1848 and the building still sports the Italianette facade designed by architect Francis Thompson. The builder was Thomas Brassey, who is historically recognized for his widespread work with railways.
