I recently booked a 1 to 1 session on Photographing People. Ian was incredibly approachable and made sure to make contact in advance, to have an initial conversation and understand both my own skill level but also establish what I was specifically looking for from the session. As I was already comfortable and familiar with shooting on manual and looking for some assistance in managing natural light and flash when working with people, we focused our discussion on this. We then arranged details (date, time, location and structure of the session etc) ahead of the day and Ian separately arranged for a model to be available for the session. On the day, we met around 9am, grabbed a coffee and had a good chat. We spent the first 45 minutes ensuring we were both familiar with my camera kit which we were using for the shoot. After that we went to the first shoot location and spent some time going through some theory around natural lighting, with some practical examples to demonstrate it through taking a few shots. At 10am, the model arrived and we worked through a number of different shots, each time building up the shot in stages. Ian was great at explaining the theory within each step and ensuring I was comfortable and clear before moving on. We had 2 hours with the model and managed to get a variety of great shots all within one general location. After the model left, we went back to a local pub for a drink and Ian spent some time reviewing the images with me and we edited 3 or 4 there. Overall, I have learned a great amount from this workshop and it has left me really inspired to get out with the camera again soon and regularly! I strongly expect I will be coming back for some more tuition from Ian again at some point in the future.

The course I chose was to help me with my work. Ian was fantastic at explaining and showing me what to do to make my photography really take a step up to the next level. I loved his manner and felt at ease as he ran through the best ways to shoot pack-shots and how to use a flash properly. I doubt very much if you could learn this kind of thing by just watching YouTube. Ian even came into my workplace to help me with the practical issues that affect the photography that I do there. Highly recommended, I'll be getting my wife on one of Ian's photography starter courses this summer.

Ian firstly wanted to understand what I wanted from the session and then tailored his approach. He took time to explain matters concisely and patiently and allowed me to absorb my new found knowledge. Through his expertise, contagious enthusiasm for photography and good-natured personality meant the day was both highly informative and very enjoyable. Highly recommended.

I have recently been on one of Cheshire School of Photography's beginner courses, thanks to a gift voucher I received for my birthday. Ian was an extremely enthusiastic, friendly and genial teacher for the day. He clearly has a great deal of knowledge and experience but is able to impart this in a clear and jargon-free way, which is ideal for somebody without a great deal of pre-existing knowledge. By concentrating on some key basic principles, Ian was able to hugely increase my knowledge of both the principles of photography and the best way to operate my own camera in a very short space of time. Highly recommended!
