This is a lovely hotel, we stayed in a nice studio room and its very quirky with a nice wet room and clean kitchen, its only 1 mile from the city centre and the staff and lovely and receptive. For the price its an absolute bargain I would recommend to anybody looking for a clean room to stay in the beautiful historic city of Chester

Wed booked an overnight for the Christmas markets. There was a bad smell of drains in the corridor and an attempt to mask it with plug-ins. The temperatures were below freezing that weekend. The room was cold, the radiators werent working and after three calls to The City Hotel out of hours call handler (the first call at 8.30pm which is hardly out of hours), the owners did not get back to us before we had left and made our way home. Only one star rating because zero was not an option.

I really enjoyed my stay here. Service was excellent, Vicky was brilliant, very welcoming. I stayed in Room 8, visiting the area for work. Well set out, all open plan, really liked it. Thought it would be a great room to return to with my wife, then later realised Id be mortified as there is no door to the bathroom. Can you imagine? Ask for a different style room if you visit with your significant other. The shower is open plan, no door. The water ran all the way into the main area of the room, so had to use the spare towels to mop up. Designers designing, I guess. The building is next to a rail line, but the passing trains do not cause too much of a nuisance. There is a microwave oven in the room, and a fridge. The point of milk and bottle of water is a lovely touch. Its a half hour walk into Chester, no effort at all, free parking available in a public car park behind the hotel. This is a lovely apartment-hotel, one Ill definitely use again next time Im in Chester.
