Needed help putting back a metal, double insulated ceiling light that had been up for around 15 years with no problem. Just got a bit confused with the wiring as no earth showing form the ceiling, only two reds and two black cables, obviously old wiring. Called SM Electrical and electrician arrived the next morning. Said he had sorted the wiring but could not touch the light fitting as it was metal. Went on to say the whole house needed rewiring!! Even suggested he should turn of the electrics for the whole house until it was sorted. Left after around 40minutes [and a cup of coffee] and charged me 140!! Somewhat shell shocked with his advice I contacted another electrician who confirmed that as the fitting was double insulated then no problem Also found UTube video confirming the same. With help from the other electrician I was able to fit the light myself and all now working well. So I paid 140 for wrong advice and work not completed. Unless you want to pay around 6k for an unnecessary rewiring do not use this company. Sir, in response to your reply below to my review of your services, the light fitting is a Class 2 double insulated ceiling light therefore perfectly safe and suitable for fitting. Had your engineer bothered to inspect the fitting he would have seen this or perhaps he has no knowledge of Class 2 light fittings. . You are correct that the 140 price was quoted to me when making the booking but naively I thought this was for work satisfactorily completed, not just for turning up, giving incorrect information and doing nothing else.

My 94-year-old mother called this company to repair her TV aerial that she had accidentally cut with garden shears. Man arrived, spent 10 mins joining the two ends of the cable together with an electrical connector block and insulating tape - and charged her 180 for the privilege with no prior indication of what the cost would be. Considering the ad in Yellow Pages proudly states "no callout charge" I think that's what's commonly known as a rip-off and exploitation of a vulnerable old lady. I called the number in the ad and left a message on their answerphone for them to call back. Needless to say they didn't. Don't you understand that is more than a whole week's pension for my mother - the money she lives on? I would have done it for free. Shame on you. Avoid these cowboys and charlatans.

Mark was very creative in sorting out a dodgy situation with our home wiring (left by the previous owners), and despite being let down by our electricity supplier on something he needed assistance with he was still able to successfully replace our fuse box and rewire everything to it tidily in a limited space. Would highly recommend. The negative reviews all seem to have been left by people who don't realise what a decent electrician actually costs.
