We live local to this hotel and decided to visit today for Sunday lunch as are fully aware of what this hotel has gone through with the pandemic. We met the 'management' and chatting can appreciate what they have to achieve to return this venue to its former glory. They are hoping to turn this around and maybe they should not have opened up yet as a hotel until things were sorted out. However our lunch was lovely and served as you would expect from a hotel ... At 10.95 for the one course I think this was good value . Our local S35 residents need to give it support it deserves as we all voted for it to remain a hotel and restaurant and now we must be seen to follow this through

I normally write my reviews quickly, but on this instance I have waited. I was somewhat disappointed by the hotel. Before booking I visited the website read what was on offer such as spacious family room, bar restaurant and thought that's everything we need. Yes the room was spacious but the decor was very dated and we couldn't shift the fusty smell for the three days we were there.Even with leaving the window open for the entirity of our stay. The bar and restaurant we didn't use either as we didn't see anybody using them or any staff waiting to serve someone. I guess they are facing stiff competition from a pub just round the corner "The barrel" which offers lunches and dinners at cheaper prices. Also by walking or driving into Chapeltown the local wetherspoons offers breakfast at less than half the price of the hotel. This would be a considerable saving for families over a 3/4 night stay like ours. Other little things that were of some minor annoyance was our booking was for three people, yet we only initially had 1 towel in the room also only 2 cups. Taking attention to the booking before the customer arrives should always be paramount. Having said this once these things had been pointed out to the staff they very quickly addressed them .
