Thrive Bushcraft

Me and my girlfriend did the one to one tuition with Alex. We spent the day foraging wild mushrooms and plants to make a great lunch! After that we learnt how to make fire by friction. We both had an amazing day and learnt a lot. Alex was a really friendly and knowledgeable guy. We feel very inspired now to go out and forage for our own food! Looking forward to doing more with Thrive Bushcraft, highly recommend.

Me and the family did a 1 day bushcraft experience. And what an experience it was. I would definitely recommend this. Alex is a great guy and very knowledgeable in what he does.

We've just finished a weekend here for my brother's stag do and Alex organised everything excellently. The itinerary was flexible, the food was incredible, the environment was wonderful and the activities were very enjoyable too. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a genuine bushcraft camping experience.

Thank you so much to Alex who, at very short notice, booked my husband and me in for a couple of hours of mushroom ID tuition. We learnt so much - which mushrooms to forage and which most definitely not. We discussed mushrooms as indicators of types of soil and which mushrooms preferred what trees and so on. He also threw in many tips on other plants that are just as tasty. All while we strolled across the fields and into the woods and lanes of the beautiful and most definitely magical place that is Chagford. I also loved that Alex has such a light touch when it comes to foraging, taking just the right amount for a taste and ensuring that there will always be plenty to retain a healthy population of fungi/plants. I was so impressed with Alex's knowledge and his wonderfully enthusiastic way of passing on that knowledge. Would really recommend spending time in his company. Just want to also say to Alex that I experimented with the Turkey Tail mushrooms and made a stock from them which I used as a base to make a really tasty mushroom soup - that actually tasted really mushroomy as opposed to the slightly watered down mushroom taste I usually get. Turkey Tail stock definitely the missing super ingredient that made the difference. Thank you so much.

A quick thank you for the fabulous experience our group of two 14yo school friends and their dads had in your woods this week. Your preparation, knowledge and personality allowed us to relax and enjoy learning so many fun but useful skills. We all appreciated the wonderful cooked food as well as the unusual drinks and field/hedgerow preserves! Thanks for packing in the river swim, the pottery and the fire by friction into our memorable stay. The boys are now nagging the dads to return and my son has already started levelling off a sloping area in the trees below the garden and prepared a tinder box! The heavy rain on Tuesday was no problem thanks to the great tents and the sophisticated (yet homemade?) mattresses, which are really appreciated at my age! Very inspiring, thank you.
