South Cary House

As a trained nurse and having worked in care homes over the years, I feel I am well qualified to rate South Cary House as the most wonderful "home from home" for my mother, who now lives there. From the pottery classes, to the singing together to the optional extras like reiki, (extra) not to mention the lovely garden, where my mother has free reign to grow fruit and veg in the greenhouse...There are tables and chairs on the patio outside the sun room for warmer days, and put to good use when there are summer tea parties or fetes. The staff are amazing, so friendly and helpful to us as relatives, but Mother gives them a very high rating too! I am regularly offered cups of tea when Mother gets one, which is a nice touch. She now always has beautifully manicured nails (which she has never had, being a gardener!) and her large room is a replica of her sitting room at home, with all her own belongings around her. The home seems immersed in the local community too, with locals popping in and, for example taking Mother to the pantomime. The pub opposite welcome her by name too when we pop over for a meal...or maybe that isn't such a good thing! There are a couple of dogs who potter about (under control) and I think this really helps the residents, you see them brighten up and talk to the dogs when they are about. Mother has been a resident for several years now (having started with a week of respite and deciding not to leave!) and this review is well overdue, I hope it helps with a difficult decision...
