Opposite the cathedral gate in the centre of Canterbury so ideal for visiting the city and taking some refreshments. Good selection of ales and an interesting menu. Plenty of room in both the bar and out the front seating or a large dining area to the rear of the building. Well worth a visit.

The food I ordered was not up to much I ordered steak and ale pie With creamy mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. The pie was delicious but the mashed potatoes were obviously made from dehydrated potatoes,they were dry with no seasoning and certainly not creamy, the vegetables which consisted of peas and chopped cabbage were cold and again no seasoning and tasted of frozen vegetables. As a Chef in Germany I realize a high volume kitchen uses convenient ingredients but the Chef at your kitchen could put more effort into dressing it up, maybe adding seasoning butter and cream and maybe a handful of chives into the potatoes would hide the taste of powdered potatoes.
