The Thomas Ingoldsby is one of 2 Wetherspoon pubs in Canterbury. Situated just a stones throw from the Cathedral This pub is the larger and more popular of the 2 boasting 2 spacious floors, and a 13 room hotel. The Thomas Ingoldsby in Burgate opened as aWetherspoon pubin 1997. The site used to be home to Courts furniture store. The pub gets its name from Richard Harris Barham who was born in 1788, at 61 Burgate, across the road. Harris penned some children's stories under the name Thomas Ingoldsby, and the carpets display whimsical fairies which link to the writer's history. You'll usually get quick service for both food and drink, this is one of the top performing Wetherspoon pubs in the area. The ambience is jolly, which is provided by some fantastic staff and great regulars. The ale is always top notch and well kept. Friday and Saturday nights are usually very busy, and you'll likely struggle to find a seat. The managers and staff are very proactive in looking after their customers, ensuring their safety. If you are visiting Canterbury, this is definitely one place to visit for a refuel, or meet others as a starting point to your day/evening.
