Cannington House is a lovely period building right in the heart of Cannington, which is a delightful village situated between Bridgewater and the Quantock Hills not far from Nether Stowey. Jan and Steve have spent the last decade restoring and decorating the building to an extremely high standard with many tasteful decorative features. This is just the sort of independent family-run B&B that I enjoy staying at. The stylishly decorated room I had was very large with a correspondingly large ensuite bathroom with a large freestanding double-ended bath. The bed was very comfortable and ensured a good night's sleep. Jan asked me what I wanted for breakfast the night before, which ensured that it was ready for me exactly at the time I requested the next morning. It was a sizable breakfast that meant I didn't need much lunch. There are five pubs in and around Cannington. For food the Malt Shovel (out of town a bit) and the Friendly Spirit probably offer the best selection. The Globe Inn, The Rose and Crown and the King's Head are more local's pubs, but the welcome was still friendly for visitors. The Saffron Indian restaurant is also very popular and situated in the middle of the village. The Walled Gardens and St Mary's church are definitely worth a visit and there is a nice tea room at the gardens.

As the owners of a 5 star B&B in Sussex we are quite difficult to please, especially my wife Sandra. However, we found Cannington House exceeded our expectations, with bedrooms and bathrooms to die for, exceptional standard of cleanliness and perfect hosts in Jan and Steve. This is so much more than a B&B and Jan and Steve can be justifiably proud of their achievements and attention to detail. There is lots to see and do in the area and we very much want to visit again when we are able.

We have just returned home from a wonderful and fascinating weekend in Cannington. Our accommodation was very comfortable and spotless. Everything about the accommodation is of the highest quality. The breakfasts were to die for! We made a tour of the village and learned so much about the interesting history of Cannington and of Cannington House. Jan and Steve were excellent hosts - efficient and entertaining. We will definitely be back. Many thanks Jan and Steve.
