Our combi boiler suddenly stopped working and we had to find an emergency plumber. We decided to call Quantum because of the good reviews online. The engineer visited within the time slot that we were given, but after a few minutes he advised that our 15-year-old boiler was not repairable and that we had to replace it, plus some additional works to make everything 'safe'. Fair enough. We weren't prepared to that, but we are not plumbers so we can't judge on something we don't know. Without going too much into details, we ended up spending more than 4200, of which around 1,800 were for the boiler, 1,800 for 1 day of labour (1 engineer) and the rest was for some other works to make the external pipe as it should be. After the works were complete, the brand new boiler kept on losing pressure. We contacted the engineer again and informed him, and also told him that the flat downstairs was noticing drops of water from their ceiling (we didn't have a leak before the new boiler was installed). The engineer re-visited (at that time we had no idea if the issue was with the new boiler or not), spent around 1 hour trying to find the cause of the leak and another 3 hours trying to tighten up a loose joint that was located in a difficult-to-access area. The joint got loose probably during the installation of the boiler (not blaming the plumber). After 4 hours, we were left with holes and broken tiles in the bathroom upstairs, a hole in the ceiling downstairs (neighbour's flat), a leaking pipe that still wasn't fixed, a bill of almost 1,000 that we had to pay on the spot and an additional quote for another day of work for around 2,500 plus VAT, plus materials, plus a builder to fix the holes (on top of the almost 1,000 already paid). This was incredibly more expensive than the hourly rate that was advertised. If he had assessed the situation properly, after discovering the source of the leak, we wouldn't have had to pay that very expensive bill (with still a leak), on top of the ridiculous quote to fix it at a later stage. He could have simply said "I don't think I am able to fix it today, this is how much it will cost you if you decide to do it tomorrow or another day", rather than ending up with a massive bill and wasted time.
